Our tour runs on an asphalt bike path through the Chugach State Park with views of the Turnagain Arm and its 6,000 foot tall mountains. The area is known for its 40-foot tide changes and Tidal Bore waves that are unique to this area of Alaska, and are not commonly found elsewhere throughout the world. We follow the same path as the Alaska Railroad through avalanche runout zones up to Bird Point, where we are able to cross underneath the highway for a chance to see beluga whales when the tide is right. Approaching Girdwood, we descend the hill and go through the Ghost Forest, so named for the trees that died in the 1964 earthquake.
