Front man of British band Arctic Monkeys--a group notorious for releasing the fastest selling debut album in UK history--Alex Turner is somewhat of a household name in his home country. While his music for Arctic Monkeys is immediately recognizable by its angular Britpop guitar work and fast-paced wry lyrics, Turner's solo work departs from this characteristic style, becoming introspective and utilizing sparse, primarily acoustic arrangements. The young musician is also noted for his side project The Last Shadow Puppets, which often performs with a full orchestra, so the understated, delicate sound of his solo work may come as a surprise to many fans. Turner's debut solo release was written as a soundtrack for the independent British film Submarine.
