Kim Larsen was a rock musician from Copenhagen, Denmark who stands as one of the most beloved and renowned figures in Danish popular music. Influenced by the Beatles and rock and roll, Larsen formed the famed Danish rock group Gasolin' in 1969, which achieved widespread fame throughout Denmark during its run for nearly a decade. Despite being heavily influenced by the rock music of Britain and the United States, musicologists claim that Larsen and his group did much to distinguish Danish music and the rhythm of the language from the primarily English-based tenets of pop rock. Following the band's break-up in the late 1970s, Larsen went on to pursue an extremely successful solo career throughout the 1980s, and is considered to be one of the most successful artists in the history of Danish popular music.
