Kansas-based duo Parts of Speech first formed as the solo project of Brandon Knocke in 2009, but once Knocke began working with Alexander Thomas, he realized that his sound was bolstered significantly as a collaborative effort. The fruit of this collaboration is hazy synthpop that swirls around the imperfections caused by the analog recording equipment preferred by the band. As its music is fairly connotative of the 1980s, it's fitting that Parts of Speech decided to release its debut album on cassette tape, a medium that is often scoffed at for its sonic quality, but is fully embraced by the band.
