John Carty is an Irish traditional musician known for his expertise in fiddle, banjo, and guitar. Born in London, England, in 1966, Carty grew up in Boyle, County Roscommon, Ireland, where he began playing music at a young age. He went on to become one of the most respected and sought-after musicians in the Irish traditional music scene, known for his virtuosity, sensitivity, and innovative approach to the tradition. Carty has released numerous albums both as a solo artist and with various groups, and has collaborated with many of the biggest names in traditional Irish music. He has also won numerous awards for his contributions to the genre, including the TG4 Traditional Musician of the Year award in 2003. In addition to his performance and recording work, Carty is also a highly regarded teacher and has taught at many music schools and festivals throughout Ireland and beyond.
