Born María del Rosario Mercedes Pilar Martínez Molina Baeza, Charo is a Spanish-American singer, guitarist, actress and comedian who rose to fame after coming to the US from Spain in the mid 1960s. With her sexualized, flamboyant stage presence and now trademark phrase "cuchi-cuchi," she became a widely recognized television personality and had her own headlining shows in Vegas by 1971. After a decade of mass exposure and various albums, including her 1977 debut, Cuchi-Cuchi, she focused on raising her family and moved to Hawaii, where she opened and performed regularly at a dinner theater. Charo has since returned to performing for bigger audiences with a regularly touring show, appearances in Vegas and various stints as a cruise ship entertainer.
