Daniela Mercury is a singer/songwriter and dancer from Bahia, Brazil who is regarded as one of the best known Brazilian female singers, with over 20 million albums sold world wide. Beginning her career at the age of 8, Mercury began taking classical ballet and jazz dance lessons before opting to become a singer at 13. Primarily filling her song repertoire with bosa nova tunes, in 1980 Mercury began performing in local bars, much to the unease of her parents. After spending nearly a decade on the club circuit, Mercury eventually released her self-titled debut album in 1991 and went on to become one of Brazil's most beloved musical figures.
