Decoder is the combined stage name of drum and bass/jungle producers Darren Beale and Mark Caro. Beale started his career in 1991 using various aliases, producing old school hardcore tracks. Under the Decoder pseudonym, he pioneered the dark or 'tech step' style of drum & bass, often releasing on Mark Caro's label, Tech Itch Recordings. Decoder's releases appeared on various labels, and he also produced for Peshay's Miles From Home. In 1998, Decoder's debut album, Dissection, was released on Hard Leaders Records. Beale later formed the band Kosheen with Markee Ledge.
