Son of the famed pioneer of talking blues after whom he was named, John Lee Hooker, Jr. has modernized his father's blues and earned success of his own. Hooker, Jr., who was born in Detroit, credits religion with saving him from a life on the streets and turning him toward the blues. His 2004 debut album, Blues with a Vengeance, was nominated for a Grammy, as was 2008's All Odds Against Me, Hooker, Jr.'s third album. Hooker, Jr.'s success as a musician has set him apart from his father's legacy and has allowed him to make a name for himself in the blues.
