Tenor saxophonist Ellery Eskelin was raised in Baltimore by his two musician parents, Rodd Keith and Bobbie Lee. Inspired by his mother and late father, Eskelin moved to New York City in 1983 and began recording and touring with various jazz ensembles, gaining exposure and recognition in Europe for his smooth style and playfully mysterious solos. Eskelin began working with Joey Baron's group, Baron Down, in 1992 and together Eskelin and Baron inspired each other with unusual composition and instrumentation. In 1994, Eskelin partnered with accordionist Andrea Parkins and drummer Jim Black, forming the trio he is most associated with and whom he has recorded the most records with. Eskelin has led over 20 albums, including his 2011 effort, Trio New York, recorded with Gary Versace on the organ and Gerald Cleaver on drums.
