Blaze Foley was the stage name for Michael David Fuller (1949-1989), a country singer/songwriter from Malvern, Arkansas who, over the course of his short life, grew to become one of the greatest performers and writers of American folk music. Inspiring many of today's most popular country and Americana acts, Blaze Foley is perhaps best known for many of his songs that would later be covered by these artists, of which the cover of Foley's "Clay Pigeons" by John Prine won a Grammy Award in 2005. Perhaps a fitting end to a life steeped in American folk spirit, Blaze Foley went out in a blaze of glory he was shot in the chest during a fight in 1989.
