Hey Mercedes was an emo band that formed in 1999 out of the breakup of the post hardcore band Braid. Guitarist and vocalist Bob Nanna, bassist Todd Bell and drummer Damon Atkinson from Braids made Hey Mercedes with the addition of Mark Dawursk on vocals and guitar. The band released its self-titled EP in 2000 with Polyvinyl Records, but soon after the band signed to Vagrant Records and began touring in support of in support of its upcoming studio album. In comparison to Braid's music, the band's sound was more melodic and fell nicely into the emo scene of the early 2000s. Dawursk was replaced by Mike Shumaker shortly after the release of the band's debut album, and Hey Mercedes went on to release one more studio album and three more EPS. As its final effort, the band dropped its final studio album, Loses Control, in 2003.
