Ismael Rivera, known as "El Sonero Mayor," was a legendary Puerto Rican salsa singer and composer. Born in 1931 in Santurce, Puerto Rico, Rivera's distinct voice and charismatic stage presence made him one of the greatest exponents of Afro-Caribbean music. His unique ability to improvise and his deep understanding of musical phrasing earned him the title of the king of improvisation in salsa. Rivera gained prominence as the lead vocalist for Cortijo y su Combo, a renowned band that popularized the bomba and plena genres. His dynamic performances and emotional delivery captivated audiences worldwide. Rivera's music told stories of love, struggle, and the daily lives of ordinary people, making him one of the most relatable artists of his time. His hits, such as "Las caras lindas" and "El Nazareno," became anthems of the Afro-Caribbean community.
