The Blues Magoos was a 1960s psychedelic garage rock band from New York City. With its whirling organ, loosely ramshackle blues-rock and trippy forays into psychedelia, the band's sound was highly characteristic of a specific time and place in the freewheeling days of the late 1960s. Alongside bands such as The Electric Prunes, The 13th Floor Elevators and Strawberry Alarm Clock, the group helped define the era's garage rock sound, inspiring contemporaries who'd go on to much larger success, such as The Rolling Stones, in the process. The Blues Magoos established itself in New York City's Greenwich Village scene, where now psychedelic classics such as "Tobacco Road" and "(We Ain't Got) Nothin' Yet" were first performed. By the early 1970s, the group had called it quits. In 2008, however, a revamped Blues Magoos lineup reunited and has been performing sporadic festival and club dates ever since.
