Not much is known about the significant composer Leonin. What most music historians can agree on is that he was probably a Frenchman living in Paris who was one of the earliest members of the Notre Dame school of polyphony. He wrote several impressive compositions on the organ and arranged rather intrepid Gregorian chant pieces. Living in the 1150's, Leonin was instrumental in what would come to be known as classical music and his composition style on the organ is looked at as a stepping stone for forthcoming composers.
