After leaving school, Brendan Perry attempted to become a teacher and a civil service worker. Both of these career paths were not suited for the budding English musician though. With no steady employment, Perry began to spend a good amount of time practicing guitar and writing songs. This eventually led him to a stint with the punk rock trio The Scavengers and subsequently with the world music ensemble Dead Can Dance. The success of these two groups gave Perry some credibility amongst music connoisseurs and when both groups imploded, the musician struck out on a successful solo career that highlights his tendencies towards mellow, well crafted soft rock.
