R.E.M.

In the early 1980s few alternative rock bands were as respected as R.E.M. The group from Athens, Georgia was able to establish itself with a unique sound that has been referred to as minor key, mid-tempo, enigmatic, semi-folk rock. After going through several ups and downs in its storied career, the group split for good in 2011.
