Minimalist folk: it sounds like some unwarranted genre that was produced when two musicians decided to collaborate on a project and actually produced something that was listenable and slightly commercial. While the inventors of this style of music have no doubt gone onto much commercial success, there are musicians who have helped propel the genre to new and interesting places that many initially thought was impossible. Of of these musicians who are fighting the good fight for minimalist folk is the French singer/songwriter Birdpaula. She has an eclectic sound that borders on the avant-garde, but her penchant for vocal and instrumental harmonies as well as subtle rhythmic quirks has helped her become one of the better respected singer/songwriters of her generation.
