The Detroit based electronic pop group Was (Not Was) has had moderate success with its eclectic sound since debuting in 1979, partly because the band has collaborated with some extremely notable figures in the music industry. Ozzy Osbourne, Elvis Costello, Wayne Kramer, Iggy Pop and Leonard Cohen have all contributed their characteristic style to Was (Not Was) tunes and have helped rise the group to a notable position that few obscure electronic bands arrive at in their career. The band was formed in 1979 and even though it broke up for a period of time in the 90s, the group reformed in 2004 with a heightened work flow and astute sense of theatrics at its live shows.
