Being the son or daughter of an extremely famous musician has its ups and downs. It'd probably be difficult to be raised around the constant celebrity that surrounds your parent and extract some sort of understanding of the pop culture media machine that is ever presently hovering above. On the positive side, though: the musician parent has already trudged the muddy waters of celebrity stardom, has made the needed connections and can give sage advice to their child, should he or she decide to launch a career as a musician. A good example of this is the well known British musician Sting and his son Joe Sumner's band Fiction Plane. The group plays a fairly interesting blend of easy to listen to alternative rock, but the singer/bassist's dad is Sting and he has the ability to make certain things happen. For example, when Sting reunited his famed band The Police for a giant stadium tour, he had Fiction Plane open up nearly all of the shows. This type of exposure gave the group the kick it needed into the mainstream and now the group is embedded into the lexicon of most music listeners who keep an ear out for new bands.
