Soman is an extremely toxic chemical that's characterized by the United Nations as a weapon of mass destruction. The dangerous nerve agent was discovered by Richard Kuhn in 1944, although the information relating to Soman was hidden in a mine shaft until the Russians discovered it in 1949. Production of Soman is strictly controlled and stockpiling the chemical in any way is outlawed by the Chemical Weapons Convention of 1993. All this information about this deadly synthetic concoction undoubtedly played a role in the decision for a German club friendly electronic outfit Soman to decide on its name. The group released its debut LP in 2003 and with a sound that's abrasive, yet danceable at the same time, Soman manages to embody the dangerously tantalizing spirit of the chemical it is named after.
