With the constant onslaught of aggressive sounds permeating their way into nearly ever facet of modern music composition, it can be easy to forget bands that are supremely mediocre and surprisingly easy to listen to. The Atlanta, Georgia-based band The Bon Viviants, formed in 2006, falls into this category, but saying that the group is supremely mediocre is by no means a put down--quite the contrary, the group is just not doing anything innovative and all the members of the band are likely aware of this. However, this mediocrity is what makes the band's music stand out. It's not amazing, it's not horrible, it's just extremely tolerable and thus ideal music to serve as background sounds during a festive gathering or informal living room discussion about current events. It's the type of music that doesn't unnecessarily draw attention to itself, and this characteristic is rare for most modern bands to possess. Whether or not the band will continue on its current path and continue making slightly lo-fi garage-tinged folk rock remains to be seen, but as it stands, the band will undoubtedly have a career that's defined by undistinguished success.
