Atlético Nacional is one of the strongest teams that compete in the top-tier football league of Colombia- the League Categoría Primera A. The team plays its home games at Atanasio Girardot stadium. It was founded in 1947 in the city of Medellin as Club Atlético Municipal de Medellín, this name was later changed to its current name in 1951. The team’s history is decorated with victories at major national and international tournaments. Atlético Nacional is one of few Colombian teams that as played in every first division tournament. Its list of accolades runs long and includes multiple Categoría Primera A, Copa Colombia and Superliga Colombiana titles, as well as continental honors such as the Copa Libertadores and Copa Merconorte.
