St. Germain

French producer and DJ Ludovic Navarre, who performs and releases music under his St. Germain guise, first made a name for himself in the mid-1990s by successfully fusing jazz and house styles into a cohesive sonic amalgam. Releasing his debut album, Boulevard, in 1995, Navarre's unique sound pushed the envelope of what is typically expected from electronic musicians. By sampling instruments like the saxophone, piano and clarinet, and stacking them next to thumpy basslines and hard-hitting beats, Navarre created a style of music that has since gone on to win him over a strong international fan base.
