My Little Cheap Dictaphone is a Belgian rock band with a penchant for dramatics. Formed in 2001, the four-piece honed its indie rock sound with English vocals, eventually realizing that the concept album was its forte. The group's most recent album The Tragic Tale of a Genius revolves around a talented musician lost between dreams and reality and is told as a Hitchcockian drama with Arcade Fire-inspired orchestral arrangements. Calling this album a "modern day pop opera," and using such prodigious figures as reference points, My Little Cheap Dictaphone certainly took on a hefty project, and while it would be near impossible for any band to live up to all those big names combined, the group received accolades throughout Europe and the UK for its efforts. The group's live shows were designed in collaboration with two film directors and incorporate impressive projections and sets that fit with the theme of the concept album.
