Frustrated with the trials and disappointments of life, Mathias Lodmalm decided to form a metal band in 1989. Recruiting his friends and initially playing a form of death metal, Cemetary was born. The group shifted lineups over the years and shifted its style toward gothic metal, but has remained a presence on the Swedish metal scene. Though Cemetary took a short hiatus, it returned to the music world in 2005. However, a mere two years later, Lodmalm announced that he was disbanding Cemetary, as he was dissatisfied and disappointed with the people he worked with, likely unaware that he was disbanding the group for the same reason he formed it.
