A member of Miles Davis' touring and session band during the mid 1970s and McCoy Tyner's band later in life, Azar Lawrence is one of the more accomplished tenor saxophonists since John Coltrane. Lawrence has also recorded with a vast array of musical artists including Earth Wind & Fire, Frank Zappa and Busta Rhymes. Lawrence's band the Azar Lawrence Sextet released their album Mystic Journey in 2010.
