Wow & Flutter is a four-piece indie rock band from Portland. Formed in 1997, the band's music falls somewhere in between the noisy tension of indie rock stalwarts like Sonic Youth and Fugazi, and tuneful, intricately arranged indie pop. Lead singer and guitarist, Cord Amato, originally formed the group with the intention of using it as a casual side project when he needed a diversion from his other bands. After releasing a couple of well-received albums in the late 1990s, however, he decided to commit to Wow & Flutter full-time. The band has since gone through some changes, expanding its onstage setup to incorporate a cello and Farfisa organ, as well as adding a projectionist to provide visual accompaniment.
