Loriot, pseudonym for Vicco von Bülow, is a German comedian and humorist who is considered by most to be the one of the more famous comedian in German history. Although Loriot is best known for his cartoons, his televised 1976 sketch comedy show Loriot further secured the comedian's place as a German cultural icon. One of the major themes that permeates Loriot's work is the idea that people are inherently unable to communicate with each other effectively--often leading to serious consequences that Loriot presents in a humorous and light-hearted manner. Much of Loriot's work has been canonized as essential to the German sketch comic's repertoire, and much of the famous comedian's works can still be seen performed at theaters and comedy venues throughout the German-speaking world.
