Norwegian rock band Hellbillies, comprising Aslag Haugen, Lars Håvard Haugen, Bjørn Gunnar Sando, Lars Christian Narum and Egil Stemkens, started its journey in 1990. Its initial releases, 1992's Sylvspente boots and 1993's Pela stein featured covers of popular English songs and helped showcase the band's singular approach to music. Pela Stein won the band its first Spellemann Prize. Following the release of the first two albums, the Hellbillies tapered off covers and began to release original music written in its local dialect. Despite being popular, the band never hit the mark until its fifth release Urban Twang, which was recorded in Austin, TX. With over 30,000 units sold, the album became the band's first blockbuster and earned it a gold certification. With subsequent releases like Leite Etter Lykka, Seven Bridges Crossed and Søvnlaus, among others, Hellbillies has become one of the most popular Norwegian acts.
