Lords of the Underground is a hip-hop group based out of Newark, NJ that combines socially sensitive rap with booming rhythm patterns. It was formed by Mr. Funke, DoItAll and DJ Lord Jazz, who met while studying at Shaw University, NC. They were invited by music producer Marley Marl to record at his studio and the trio soon dropped three singles - "Psycho," "Funky Child" and "Chief Rocka." Its debut album Here Come the Lords was released soon after. The end of the year saw the group win a BET award for the best rap group of the year. Keepers of the Funk was released in 1994 followed by Resurrection five years later. Apart from albums, Lords of the Underground has also released singles like "BonFire," "Magic," "Like a Drug," "Insomniac" and "Whats Up," among others.
