Birthed from the prestigious Princeton University, Miracles of Modern Science (MOMS) is a multi-instrumental band that got its start singing sea-shanties that pulled heavy influence from the group's classical trainings in jazz and chamber music. The group now writes songs with a fantastical, storytelling energy similar to that of erst sea-shanty favorites. However, the band's song structures are more akin to sprawling, baroque pop of groups like the Dirty Projectors and Grizzly Bear, sans no major electronic production value. With members playing upright bass, mandolin, violin and cello, MOMS manages to be one of the few bands in the indie rock world to create a sound for itself with the majority of its instrumentation pulled from the traditional folk cannon.
