Ali Gatie developed an affinity for music - especially R&B and pop music - at a young age, having grown up listening to the likes of Ed Sheeran and J.Cole. He started producing his own music in 2016, at the age of 18, and was signed to Warner Records following the release of numerous independent singles. Although "Moonlight" was his first successful song, it was 2019's "It's You" that made Gatie a household name across North America and Europe. He released his first full-length album You later that year.
