DJ, producer and head of (iN)Sect Records, Ben Webster has enough talent in mixing beats and enough hype around his name in his native Austin, Texas to do quite well without an attention grabbing scheme. Still, Webster dons one of his many colored bear suits, complete with bear mask, while performing under the moniker Butcher Bear. While his collaborative partner Charlie--or former opera singer Maricela Mayo--doesn't dress up in a kitschy animal costume, she certainly adds to the antics in their eponymous band, Butcher Bear & Charlie. The duo produces well-crafted electro beats spliced together in an experimental manner with Charlie helming the electropop vocals. But the real draw to the band for most fans is its over-the-top live performances, which involve Charlie dancing around Butcher Bear and his synthboard, and occasional appearances from panda back-up dancers.
