At 18 years-old, Meiko left her small town of Robert, Georgia and threw herself into the competitive music scene of Los Angeles. She spent a few years honing her indie folk sound by hitting the coffee shop singer/songwriter circuit, where her combination of acoustic guitar playing, plaintive vocals and sometimes quirky arrangements caught on with local listeners. In 2007, she released a debut LP that sold very well online despite little to no promotion or major label backing, and spawned singles that appeared on popular television shows, such as Grey's Anatomy. Though Meiko's style may be a little too earnest or basic for some, her light and breezy songs will be well-regarded by fans of vocal folk pop.
