Formed from the ruins of the seminal stoner rock band Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age is an alternative rock band lead by chief singer/songwriter and guitarist Josh Homme. The group released its self-titled debut LP in 1998, introducing its characteristic style of riff-oriented songs driven by propulsive drumming. Continuing to evolve its sonic style, the group's 2000 sophomore album, Rated R, managed to attract attention from critics and the listening public, leading to tours with prominent modern rock bands such as Smashing Pumpkins, Foo Fighters and Hole. Foo Fighters front-man and ex-Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, took up drumming duties on Queens of the Stone Age's 2002 LP, Songs for the Deaf. The album spawned the popular hits "No One Knows" and "Go With the Flow," helping introduce the group's music to the mainstream listening public. Having since gone on to release well-received albums, in addition to maintaining an ardent touring schedule, Queens of the Stone Age has solidified its role as one of its generation's stalwart, go-to rock acts.
