James Andrew Innes is a stand-up comedian, writer and actor who performs under the moniker Jack Dee. Born in London, he briefly embarked on a mission to become a priest before performing his first stand-up routine at a Comedy Store open mic night in 1986. He has since been honing his craft, first on the comedy club circuit in London and eventually at high-profile venues such as the London Palladium and the Apollo Theater. Named Best Stage Newcomer by the British Comedy Award in 1991, he began reaching a widespread audience, particularly the following year when he landed his own television show, titled The Jack Dee Show. The program was the first of several television spots Dee would earn throughout the 1990s and 2000s, including his acclaimed 2006 performance Jack Dee Live at the Apollo, which earned him a British Academy Television nomination for Best Entertainment Performance.
