?A delicious ?Tom Petty-esque? slice of sublime Americana? Bang The Drum Mag
Orphan Colours was born out of the ashes of folk outfits Ahab and Noah & The Whale, bringing together the band?s collective influences of Rock, Americana and folk. They began with their debut EP High Hopes with singles ?Won?t Let You Down? and ?High Hopes?, produced by Rupert Christie.
After producing a stop-gap acoustic EP to keep fans happy, they went into their own studio and began recording their debut album ?All On Red?. Singer Steven Llewellyn and guitarist Fred Abbott took on the duties of recording engineer and producer and delivered an album that was nominated for the 2019 Americana UK Awards ?Album of the Year?.
After touring extensively in the UK and some shows in Denmark the band took a break until 2023 when Steven and Fred went back into the studio to put together the various recordings and demos for their second album King of Alchemy. The title taken from the album track of the same name which illustrates the central theme of the album - transformation of character.
?Although I don?t use those words in the song, I wanted the title to reflect the metaphor of Alchemy. The central character in the song transforms from somewhat damaged goods to being a winner. In the chorus he?s saying ?you said you?d never give up on me?, so he?s gone through a sort of galvanising process to be a stronger person. I wanted to reflect this process as much as possible through the arc of the album.?
The first single from the album ?Blame It On The Weather? was released on 6th May with the full album coming on 7th June.
The album is available for pre-release now through the band?s website and single ?Blame It On The Weather? is free as a digital download along with a pre order of the album.

Young Martyrs
Tonight sees the homecoming of Young Martyrs from their 2024 UK tour.
The UK country scene has never been as healthy as it currently is. Along with every genre are splinters and sub-genres that offer bands and artists an opportunity to carve something unique. Young Martyrs are such a band and they're currently cutting their own piece of rhinestone with an Alt Country/Alt Rock sound that is distinctly their own.
Young Martyrs sound like The Eagles would sound if they'd formed in 2020. Their self-titled debut album gained them a loyal UK following and their newly released second album Time Is Not On Our Side has found its way onto airwaves across the globe, growing this four-piece from Southwest UK an international army of fans. If you like big guitars, deep beats and soaring harmonies then you just found your new favourite artist.
