Mummenschanz is an experimental Swiss theater troupe that typically performs with surreal masks and unique props. Founded in 1972, the group became well known in the avant-garde artistic community for its oftentimes bizarre performances that feature choreography that toys with the notions of form, light and shadow. The term "mummenschanz" is German for "mummery," which is a play involving mummers--an early modern English term for mime artists.
