Böhse Onkelz (years active: 1985-2005) is a rock band from Frankfurt am Main, Germany that stood as one of the most commercially successful and controversial German bands of its kind. With a name that literally translates colloquially into English as "Bahd Unclez," Böhse Onkelz more or less lived up to its irreverent moniker by writing music that hints at the band's support for anarchistic and extreme right-wing causes. However, members of the band would consistently deny any associations they may have to extremist groups or ideology. The controversy only served to buffet the band's counter-culture allure, and over the course of its extensive and varied career in German rock, Böhse Onkelz was able to sell nearly 5 million albums and half a million videos and DVDs of their performances.
