German composer and singer Dirk Michaelis grew up in a music-loving family and attended the Musikschule Friedrichshain in Berlin. He was the lead singer of the group Karussell from 1985 to 1991. He composed and sang "When I Left" in 1987, which went on to become the group's biggest hit ever. After the disbanding of the group, Michaelis began pursuing a solo career and released several recordings under his label RCS (ROCKchanSONG)such as Rockchansongs, Pardon, Dunblane and Glaube Liebe Hoffnung, to name a few. He collaborated with singers André Herzberg and Dirk Zöllner on the project Die drei HIGHligen in 1993. When not working on music, Michaelis likes to spend time with organizations such as the German José Carreras Leukemia Foundation and UNICEF.
