Featuring
English musician, producer and entrepreneur Thomas Dolby, born Thomas Morgan Robertson, rose to fame during the 1980's New Pop era when artists began to use electronic instruments in their music. His single "She blinded Me With Science," released shortly after his debut album the golden Age of Wireless in 1982, is arguably his most well-known song, reaching number five on the U.S. Hot 100. Dolby occasionally collaborated with a group of artists known as Dolby's Cube, which had no official line up. Dolby founded the Headspace Company, later renained Beatnik Inc, in 1993 where he designed a new downloadable file format for the Internet. After establishing Beatnik Inc, he stepped down as CEO to pursue other technological interests and founded Retro Ringtones LLC in 2002. He returned to his solo career in 2006 and embarked on a cross country tour of the US. Dolby's album A Map Of The Floating City was released in three EPs: Amerikana in 2010, Oceanea in 2010 and Urbanoia in 2011. The third and last of the EPs was released via his online game titled the Floating City, which takes place in a fictional version of the 1940s had World War II turned out differently. A combined version of A Map Of The Floating City, including new songs, was released at the end of the game and the winning "tribe" was rewarded with a private performance from Dolby.
