The Des Moines Symphony Orchestra is the largest professional performing arts organization in central Iowa. For the past 23 years under Music Director Joseph Giunta, the orchestra has gained a reputation of excellence as one of the nation's finest regional orchestras. The Des Moines Symphony Orchestra puts on Pops, Masterworks, Family and Educational concert series every year at the Civic Center of Greater Des Moines. In support of musical education for all ages, the orchestra created the the Des Moines Symphony Academy, a year round institution that offers private and group classes, chamber music lessons and three youth orchestras. Together, the Des Moines Symphony Orchestra and Academy are Iowa's largest employer of professional musicians.
