Author Ernest Hemingway lived in Key West for many years. To celebrate his life, Key West hosts an annual island-wide party of gargantuan proportions. Events in the five-day festival include a regatta, fishing tournament, five-kilometer run, street fair and short story competition. There's also a reenactment of Running of the Bulls, albeit tamer than the Pamplona version, with revelers in bull costumes and an arm-wrestling competition. The highlight of the festival is the Hemingway look-alike contest. Most events have entry fees, but credit card acceptance, location and hours vary. Venues include Waterfront Playhouse, the Museum of Art & History, Doubletree Grand Key Resort, Wyland Gallery, Key West Art Bar, Sloppy Joe’s Bar, the Conch Republic Seafood Company docks, Casa Antigua, Fleming and Duval streets and Southernmost Hotel. See website for full program.
