Drowning Pool became a household name on the metal circuit in a matter of months in 2001, thanks to a well-received series of Ozzfest performances and the huge success of "Bodies," the band's debut single. The nu metal band formed in Dallas in 1996, and with constant touring began gathering a local following of heavy music fans. After "Bodies"--and its now oft-repeated chorus of "let the bodies hit the floor"--spread all over alternative rock radio, the band seemed poised to dethrone some of the genre's more prominent heavy-hitters. Unfortunately, however, lead singer Dave Williams died of heart disease just a year later and Drowning Pool was forced to evaluate its options. Ultimately, the band soldiered on, running through a couple of new lead singers before settling into a solidified new lineup. The group released its eponymous fourth album in 2010 and continues to tour regularly.
