Having started in 1970, Pinkpop is one of the longest-running yearly music festivals anywhere. Its name comes not from the English word "pink," but from the Dutch word "Pinksteren," which means "Pentecost." This makes sense, because the festival is usually (but not always) scheduled for the Pentecost weekend. Pinkpop is one of the most popular music festivals in Europe, attracting approximately 60,000 music fans every year. Its headliners are usually world-renowned rock bands, such as Korn, Rage Against the Machine, Linkin Park, Coldplay, or Rammstein. Pinkpop doesn't shun dance music either--its lineup always features several world-renowned EDM acts.
