Formed in 1970 the Irish folk/pop band Clannad blurs the boundaries between traditional Celtic, folk and Irish music with new age elements of jazz fusion and alternative pop. Having built a following in the folk music scene during its first decade of music making, the band got its first taste of international commercial success with its 1982 single, "Theme from Harry's Game." Now in the spotlight for its new age music, Clannad began bridging the gap between Celtic and pop music throughout the 1980s with albums such as Macalla, released in 1985. The band took home the Grammy Award for Best New Age Album for its 1998 record Landmarks, but decided to put the group on hold following its release. After nearly ten years Clannad reformed to play a set at Glasgow's Celtic Connections Festival in 2007 and subsequently toured of the UK, released its 2012 album embarked on a tour of the North America, its first in over two decades. The group is one of the few acts credited for bringing traditional Irish music to an international audience.
