The Sugarhill Gang emerged out of New Jersey in 1973. Wielding an old school hip-hop style, the band made history with its 1979 single "Rapper's Delight," which was the first rap song to become a national, Top 40 hit. The group's subsequent record, 1980's self-titled effort, attracted attention in Europe where The Sugarhill Gang maintains a devoted fan base with hits like "8th Wonder" and "Apache."
