Africa in April began in 1986 to recognize the heritage of more than 50 percent of Memphis' population. The festival features exhibits and events related to the culture, tradition, history, arts, crafts and music of selected African countries. The Vendor's Marketplace Festival in Handy Park on Beale Street offers handcrafted goods and cultural artifacts. The festival takes place for four days during the third week in April at locations along Beale Street and throughout downtown Memphis. Also takes place at Robert R. Church Park and Linden-Downtown Memphis.
