The most famous jazz festival in the world is remarkable for what it is not: pretentious. Unlike other fancy fests located in pretty beachside towns, like Cannes, the Montreux Jazz Festival is accessible to everyone with free shows, reasonably priced tickets and an overall friendly, welcoming atmosphere. This is a true street party that everyone is invited to attend. For two weeks every July, hundreds of thousands of people come to this Swiss town to roam the lakeside paths and parks, listen to music as they stroll or relax or even swim in Lake Geneva. Every major jazz artist has played here since this fest began, and most hip pop stars as well. Montreux is renowned for attracting the hottest acts.
